Hey all,

Some small but notable changes have been made to the EHR this week while we continue to work with nursing, PERs, and revenue to keep the whole system working.

Here you go!

———————-

1) Intra-procedure events in the Sedation procedure note = this is a mandatory field to help with safety and QI. This will now be forced to fill out before signing and will be an ‘open response’ in all the sedation macros moving forward.

—————–

2) Vocera is now an option as a weblink – you won’t be able to use it as a phone. But it allows you to do everything else Vocera brings you.

Specifically, you can use it to message. For people with fat thumbs like me, using the keyboard will mean less typos. Also you can therefore use the messaging option from your desktop instead of needing to log onto a physical phone!

—————————–

3) Observation bills from the LOS calculator – if you use the LOS calculator but are using it to do Obs billing, you now have all the options available to you from the ‘magnifying glass’ drop down menu. The obs bills will still be highlighted and presented more up front if you sign the BH notes from the ‘My Notes’ tab. But if you use the LOS calculator to drop the bill, you know can find them easily!

————————–

4) MR orders for Appy – your ASAP team is working with Radiology to streamline and simplify our orders to make sure the right study is ordered and therefore protocolized more quickly.

You may notice that now the MR Pelvis has been fine-tuned for MR Pelvis Appendicitis on our quick orders. This is the MR specifically for appy and is now its own order to make it smoothly ordered and performed.

This new order has also been added to our ED Abdominal Pain orderset!

Expect some more sleeker radiology orders in the future!

5) Status column restrictions – the status column colors mean specific things within our system. It turns out some well-meaning people were manually changing those colors which was confusing to staff who expects them to behave a certain way based on orders.

As a result the option to manually change the status (and therefore the color) has been restricted to prescribers and nurses. This should hopefully lead to less confusion, especially around BH observation patients.

Thanks again for your hard work and giving us some great ideas to follow up on!

Your ASAP team,

AJC, JKC, and MBH
