1) ED Ortho Open Fracture Antibiotics panel in Antimicrobial section
We have been working with our ortho colleagues to help improve our timing to antibiotics for open fractures.
An ED Ortho Open Fracture Antibiotics panel has been made and placed in two places – in the ‘Common Order Panels’ section of Quick Orders. It is also in the ‘Antimicrobials’ section in Quick Meds (as seen above)
When you open it has many choices but Ancef is going to be used the most and the top choice. But there are other choices to define specific antibiotic regimens for different grades and exposures.
Ortho should guide us should this be more than an unsoiled grade 1 or 2 but everything should be right there!
2) Finding Expects when reviewing cases -Are you going back to review a case and want to see the expect? Don’t look in notes as it isn’t stored that way
-
Open the patient chart
-
Head to Encounters (red box above)
-
Find the ED Expect encounter, invariably just below the ED note you wrote
3) HASS scores – we have linked a nurse activity to obtain a HASS score to the ordering of a Unineb so we will have an initial HASS documented to monitor improvement. Thank our nursing colleagues!
A reminder you can find the HASS in the ‘Scoring Tools’ tab (red box above)
4) “Breaking the Glass”– when using magic buttons – as you know the ‘magic buttons’ (found in the weblinks on the trackboard) gives you access to other iterances of EPIC such as MGB.
If you get the ‘break the glass’ warning, you can still access with the password: BCH123
5) Performing and Authorizing Provider – these default to the attending on the treatment team for compliance and billing reasons!!!
Fellows, APPs, and trainees should not change the performing provider to their name. Signing the note will link the procedure to them. The ‘performing provider’ field is the attending who is supervising the procedure. In the instance where a different attending is supervising the procedure, their name should be put in the Performing Provider field.
But changing this will hold up several things in the background. Please keep this as attending names!
Thanks for patience and hard work!
Your ASAP team,
AJC, JKC, and MBH
