Hey Folks,

And good evening…. Your August installment of Operational Update while you watch preseason Patriots … or Top Gun: Maverick!

Happy reading!

Sick call policy

Nothing has changed, just an annual refresher on the attending sick call policy (also attached).  Please review and hit me up with questions, but want to say that the PAC is ALWAYS happy to help find acute coverage for your shift so you don’t have to deal with that in times of stress.

Boarders

We are close to launching some new processes for boarders you will hear about at PEMA from Jess and Ashley. If you do not make PEMA or do not go, please find a colleague to review as this is the first of many workflow changes on which we will build.

Sickle Cell QI Project Whiteboard

As part of the next PDSA cycle, the SCD QI team will be implementing a whiteboard that will be filled out by both patients/families along with nursing when a patient with a VOE arrives. It will be given to the patient by the bedside RN.  The whiteboard will display things like pain scores and time of next reassessment, with goals of using patient/family engagement to improve timely reassessments and opioid doses. The QI team is open to feedback once it has been rolled out!

Two BIG EOC Things!

  • Gloves are now stocked on wall mounted glove holders in every Main ED room.  If you need them look around so you don’t have to leave the room!
  • Please review the suture bins in the ParEx Cabinet outside of room 39 as there has been some reorganization. The largest change is that Fast-Absorbing Gut is now discontinued by Ethicon and a similar product is now being purchased (see image below). We now have Express Gut suture available in 6-0 AND 5-0 which should absorb in 5-7 days. It’s been a while so just a reminder that the 6-0 is quite fragile, so use with care 😊 . Vicryl Rapide is still available but may not absorb until 7-10 days.

Okay, that’s it folks. Good Night!!!
